Sano Bengote Tamashii, also known as the Trinity, is the main protagonist of Apple Black. He is the son of Sergo Tamashii.
Sano, originally named Sanosuke, is a young man of an average height and build with straight black hair. His hair is tied in a ponytail in the back and he has thick, black eyebrows. Sano usually wears a long, blue-purple sleeve over his left arm to conceal the Arodihs arm that is connected to a white, short-sleeved shirt. The sleeve serves to block the Impulse radiating from his arm so that he can keep a lower profile.
Sano also wears black pants with black-and-blue shoes with brown straps. On his right hand and wrist, he wears a glove-like garment with four silver buttons.

The Arodihs arm replaces Sano's entire left arm and part of his left pectoral muscle. The symbol of the Trinity is located on the back of his left hand, along with a circular light on each knuckle and finger joint.
During the Banburi attack, Sano lacked a sleeve on his left arm, and his right arm featured a rolled-up sleeve fastened by a button. He wore a small pin with the symbol of the Trinity on his shirt collar.
Sano projects a very mellow, caring personality, choosing not to fight other people whenever he can. He strongly believes that violence in the world will continue without forgiveness, so he plans to use his fighting abilities and power to eventually forgive those who have committed wrongs within Eden. Sano is often clumsy and has a notoriously poor sense of direction. This can cause other people to underestimate him if they are unaware that he is the Trinity. Due to his isolation as a child, Sano is socially inept, especially around females, and he is unaware of phrases and objects which most others are familiar with. This masks his high intelligence, shown by abilities like reading people's intentions.

In cases where people close to him are hurt, Sano breaks down and can become angry at whatever or whoever caused it. He is also negatively impacted by the long-term effects of having frequent nightmares about his father and the responsibility of being the Trinity.
Sergo Tamashii was Sano's father before his assassination, though he continues to visit Sano in his dreams. Even after his death, Sano continued to live and train on an island belonging to Sergo. Sano constantly dreams about his father’s demise and, while at the Black Bottom Island Guild, Sano experiences a beheaded Sergo talking to him.
Sano highly regards Angelo, who served as his trainer and father figure while he lived on Sergo's island. Angelo is credited with teaching Sano the basics of Impulse usage and various other skills needed to enter the Black Bottom Island Guild's graduating class without prior schooling.

While Sano lived on his father's island, Madam Naomi oversaw Sano's upbringing, though it is unknown how frequently she visited him. Madam Naomi is aware of the greater capabilities of Arodihs when even Sano himself does not, and she is protective of his well-being by resisting efforts to relocate Sano to Cyrene.
Wiiwerth, a monkey-like mutant, was Sano's only constant companion while he lived on Sergo's island, so the two have a deep bond with each other. The mutant likes to accompany Sano whenever possible and shows boredom whenever they are apart.
During their first encounter, Ryuzaki attempts to fight Sano in order to gauge his fighting ability, which intimidates Sano. After Symon transports the two of them to a simulation of Ryuzaki's past, Sano is shocked by the memories he encounters and becomes concerned for Ryuzaki's well being when he begins to fight a simulated form of Cerebroot.

Eventually, Sano discovers that Ryuzaki is using the simulation as a means of self-punishment for his perceived failures and intervenes in the fight so that Ryuzaki can save him. As a result, Ryuzaki gains a sense of respect for Sano.
When they first meet, Symon ascertains Sano's identity as the Trinity and assures him that he continues to believe in the rumors surrounding Sano. Immediately, Sano becomes wary of Symon's unclear motives and admits that Symon scares him more than Ryuzaki.
Later, when inside a simulation designed by Symon, he gives Sano a detailed explanation of his simulation and of Ryuzaki's past, making Sano suspicious about the extent of his knowledge. After Sano questions his honesty towards him, Symon replies that he would offer assistance to Sano in a time of need and that he would have trust issues to assume he is not an ally.

Because he did not interact with other women his age on Sergo's island, Sano becomes infatuated by Lily when they first meet and passes out. Lily and Neon later treat Sano to a meal out of kindness, causing Sano to react in a child-like manner because of his infatuation, but he later calms down.
Osamu is Sano's roommate at the Black Bottom Island Guild, though he treats Sano contemptuously. During their first meeting, Osamu angrily tells Sano to keep away from his belongings and to keep down the room's temperature. However, when Sano tells him about his fight with Grudon Fattimunga, Osamu is intrigued and begins to tell Sano about the governmental structure of Eden and Fattimunga himself.
Osamu is also surprised by Sano's Arodihs arm and the fact that Sano is friends with Lord Angelo Rikomon. He is later taken aback by Sano's expressions of gratitude.

Arodihs has a seemingly symbiotic connection to Sano and exists as a separate being to his psyche. Furthermore, Arodhis can fuel Sano and give him tremendous power, however their relationship has not been definitively explored within the series.

Before arriving at Black Bottom Island, he only knew Angelo Rikomon, Madam Naomi, and Wiiwerth and was relatively unaware of people's habits and lifestyles aside from his own.
Sano Awakes from a dream of his father Segro Tamashii's assassination. After this Sano gets ready to arrive at Black Bottom. Angelo yells at Sano to hurry up Sano then arrives on their boat with Wiiwerth. Angelo has a conversation with Sano telling him he's been living on the outskirts of the country for a long time being isolated for his whole life. Sano Angelo and Wiiwerth eventually arrive at Black bottom island on their boat. While Sano tries to find his class a break in happens at Black Bottom Island Guild caused by Grudon Fattimunga a general of the Banburi Rebels. While trying to find his classroom Sano has a run in with Ryuzaki. Ryuzaki ends up punching him in the face and Sano flees to a large pillar. While hiding Sano finds Symon Saito reading a book. Sano And Symon have a chat about the history of Eden and who Sano is. Sano eventually gets found by Ryuzaki but before he could do anything Mikael Barogue stops him Mikael then forces them to class and punishes them with after school detention. Later after class Sanoo has a chat with Mikael he then spots a wanted poster for Gideon Banburi Leader of the Banburi Rebels. Sano brings up that his father fought Gideon at Ebony Peak he asks Mikael for reassurance. This also sparks up what Sano's true goal is to learn more about his father and his tribe. The conversation is abruptly ended after Mikael was summoned by the head dark lord. Sano then sits down and question Mikael beliefs. Sano's stomach growls and states he hasn't eaten anything all day. Sano looks on the guild map for a place he can get food but suddenly he senses a strong impulse. It is Grudon Fattimunga breaking in the guild building where Sano is. Grudon spots Sano and questions if he is a guard Grudon Attacks after questioning Sano. Grudon takes off his coat and take his wand off of his back called Neroneza. He throws his wand at Sano; Sano dodges the blade but unexpectedly it rotates Sano questions this and is surprised. Sano dodges the rotating wand quickly and effortlessly. Grudon quickly dashes behind Sano mid dodge and grabs his blade Grudon tries to strike Sano in the eye with the blades almost succeeding but Sano teleports out the way. Grudon after this questions Sano and says he must be from the Tamashii tribe and says the nearly were extinct. Grudon also says Arhodis is the strongest wand in all of Eden he claims he doesn't believe any of it. Grudon throws some insults at Sano before fighting again. Grudon tries to strike Sano with a straight strike but Sano teleports behind him and uses his move Holy Ghost Ripple with his wand one tapping Grudon and knocking him out.
