Touya and Yukito are very close in the series. They met in Yukito’s first day at Toya’s high school when he transferred there. Since then, they’ve constantly hung out with each other, doing school work together, and even working at part time jobs together. Both are rarely seen apart from each other during the show. Besides the fact they are very close, Touya is the first to notice that Yukito is not fully human.
Since he was little, Touya has been able to feel the presence of supernatural things around him. So, at first, the need Touya feels to get closer to Yukito is based on this need he has to help these supernatural presences that no one else can sense. Because it is later revealed that Yukito is not human. So this later confuses Touya even more because it seems like Yukito does not know he is not human. Throughout the series, Touya tries to tell Yukito something but not quite getting to it. And it was later revealed that this is not him wanting to confess his feelings for him, but to tell him that his whole life is a lie, which could be a really hard thing that could potentially harm Yukito’s feelings, which is something Touya would never want to do. So he decides to help Yukito until he finds the right time to tell him.
When Yukito tells Touya and Sakura about his grandparents, Touya realises that he thinks they might be real. And realizing that this might make him feel lonely, Touya invites him to be part of his family. They start going on trips together, having picnics and happy moments together. Somehow, with all of this, Touya makes sure that before telling him the truth, Yukito would realize that he is not alone, and that he has people to rely on, that care for him.

Both Yue and Ruby Moon realize that Touya has the power needed to sustain Yue’s life, which is the reason he planned for Yukito to be in the same class as him, to get closer. Seeing Syaoran and Tomoyo’s shock at this, thinking that Yukito and Touya only got closer because of this, Kero reassures them that this is not the case, that their care for each other is genuine and that Yue could only control Yukito knowing him, but not their genuine feelings for each other. In CLAMP’s world, love is the strongest magic, which means that it was impossible to predict that Touya and Yukito would fall in love. In fact, in the manga, Eriol confirms this, explaining that his predictions were completely different to what happened. He thought that Yukito would fall in love with Sakura, considering that after this she would become his new master. But he ended up being wrong since love was stronger than any prediction. Eriol then tells Yue that he knew this all along, since he knows Yukito’s heart better than anyone.
After the reveal that Yukito is Yue, it becomes clear what Touya wanted to tell him all along. And as time goes on, Yukito gets weaker and weaker, which makes Touya extremely worried, thinking that he has to act as fast as he can. Which results in the scene by the yard’s tree where Touya tells Yukito that he would not bear to see him leaving his side, asking him to stay with him. Yukito seems confused by this and asks him why he would leave him. As the two of them look at each other’s eyes directly, with their faces near each other, Touya is about to confess his feelings for Yukito. But he gets abruptly interrupted by Nakuru who gets down from the tree she seemed to have climbed earlier.
Later, Yukito, Touya, and Sakura discuss a movie they are participating in for a school project, and she wonders why this is the first that she is heard of the movie. When Touya asks her to go make more tea, leaving the two alone, Yukito teases that it is because Touya is shy. Yukito then yawns and says that he is sleepy but it is okay. Touya once again tries to tell Yukito that he knows about Yue, but Sakura interrupts them with the tea. Sakura then sees that Yukito is fading away, but figures it must be her imagination.

The next day on set, while Touya and Yukito are filming on the veranda, Yukito passes out and falls off, though he is saved by an extremely worried Touya. Touya sits with Yukito who is laying on a bed. When Yukito wakes up he asks if he fell asleep again. Touya tells him that he did, and that they need to do something soon otherwise he will vanish. Yukito is confused as to what he is talking about. As he is about to tell Yukito the truth, Nakuru interrupts them as usual, and Touya gets mad, telling them off and forcing them to leave the room. Touya tells Yukito that he knows he is not truly human, and Yue appears. Touya tells Yue that he wants to sacrifice his powers to save Yukito under the condition that Yue will protect Sakura now that he will no longer be able to sense when she is in danger. Yue promises to protect her with his life, and Touya says that he has to promise to protect himself as well since if Yue dies, Yukito will as well.
After the transfer of power, Yue says he is finally back to himself, but then senses someone was eavesdropping. Sakura cries to him, telling him she feels awful that her own powers were not enough to save him and Yue tells her there is nothing she could have done about it because it is natural that as a child she would not be as strong as Clow Reed. While Sakura tours the high school fair with her friends, Touya and Yukito talk in private, just the two of them, and Touya comforts Yukito when he appears troubled by the fact that he is not human. Yukito says he cannot believe that all of his memories are false, to which Touya replies that all of the things the two of them experienced together are real, and that as long as Yukito is near him, it would be more than enough for him. Yukito smiles at him, thanking him.
Later, while Yukito and Sakura ride one of the attractions, Sakura tells Yukito how much she likes him. However, Yukito gently rebuffs her, saying that her love for him is merely fatherly, quite similar to her deep feelings she has for her father, and that he already has someone he really likes and cares for a lot. Sakura, in a rare moment of insight, realizes that person to be her older brother, Touya. In the later seasons, Sakura lets go of her crush on Yukito and also encourages him to confess his feelings for her brother.
